On Feb. 13, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) held the Inauguration Ceremony of School of Artificial Intelligence and International Forum on Artificial Intelligence, at SIN Wai Kin International Conference Center. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Huang Jianwei -- associate vice president of CUHK-Shenzhen. About 200 government officials, specialists and scholars, industry practitioners, and media workers attended the ceremony, witnessing the establishment of School of Artificial Intelligence of CUHK-Shenzhen.
CUHK-Shenzhen, located in Longgang District of Shenzhen, began its schooling in 2014, and School of Artificial Intelligence is its 8th independent academy. School of Artificial Intelligence of CUHK-Shenzhen is scheduled to begin its enrollment in September of 2025, for the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes in artificial intelligence. CUHK-Shenzhen is an innovation-driven university rooted in the Greater Bay Area (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area) and with national and international eyesight. Since its foundation, it keeps attaching great importance to the development of artificial intelligence, currently with over 40 scholars elected in 2024 among global top 2% of scientists specialized in the sectors like artificial intelligence and image processing, network communication, operations research, automatic engineering, introduced by Xu Yangsheng -- an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the president of CUHK-Shenzhen.
Xu emphasized that School of Artificial Intelligence would undertake 3 major tasks, of vigorously pushing artificial intelligence schemes, the implementation and the disciplinary development, of fully coordinating the university’s development in pace with the development of artificial intelligence, and of following national strategies to school qualified artificial intelligence professionals.
According to the relevant introduction, School of Artificial Intelligence of CUHK-Shenzhen, with the aim of improving China’s AI teaching and research, would strive to train and develop top professionals and cross-disciplinary personnel for the development of Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area and even the whole nation, guaranteeing mighty talent base and scientific foundation for the sustainable development of AI sector.
School of Artificial Intelligence of CUHK-Shenzhen just comes into being at the right time. It would help supply qualified personnel with both theoretical background and practical ability to Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area and even the whole nation, injecting new energy into global AI sector and contributing to develop in the Greater Bay Area a new global-level highland for AI development, expressed by Gao Wen -- an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the director of Peng Cheng Laboratory.
